Description To Books Faithful: Two Diehard Boston Red Sox Fans Chronicle the Historic 2004 Season

Early in 2004, two writers and Red Sox fans, Stewart O'Nan and Stephen King, decided to chronicle the upcoming season, one of the most hotly anticipated in baseball history. They would sit together at Fenway. They would exchange emails. They would write about the games. And, as it happened, they would witness the greatest comeback ever in sports, and the first Red Sox championship in eighty-six years. What began as a Sox-filled summer like any other is now a fan's notes for the ages.

Crit Regarding Books Faithful: Two Diehard Boston Red Sox Fans Chronicle the Historic 2004 Season
First thing: I hope you like baseball if you read this, because it's a stat-heavy, informed, insider-y book. I'd say a working knowledge of the sport, and hopefully the Sox, is required for full enjoyment. That said...This is a good one. I'm a long-time fan of King's, especially his nonfiction, and he's always written well about baseball. I also followed Boston that fateful post-season, while down in Texas, and have rooted for them since (though I'm a Cubs fan first, still and always). O'Nan I

Finished "Faithful". Oh boy what fun!!! It was a great way to relive the 2004 Red Sox season. I sort of wish they would have written more during the playoffs, but after a point there wasn't much left to say! Really enjoyed it. I think you have to be a baseball fan to really enjoy it, since a lot of it is recaps of games. But, since I'm a fan of the game (and not just individual teams), I lapped it up.

Sean LaPrise11/11/10Period: 1Mr. AmbroseQuarter One Book Review: Faithful In the year of 2004, history was made marking the greatest comeback in all of Baseball by none other than the Boston Red Sox. Two die-hard fans, who decided to chronicle the 2004 season of the Boston Red Sox were novelist, Stewart ONan and author of contemporary horror, Stephen King. These authors however would not know what history would eventually be made by their home team, and their recap of this great year would

"Faithful" by diehard Red Sox Fans Stewart O'Nan and Stephen King chronicles the epic 2004 Red Sox baseball season. I am a life-long Red Sox fan and the 2004 team is my all-time favorite. I remember rocking my first daughter (when she was 8 months old) to sleep during the playoffs and the World Series while trying to not make too much noise cheering for the team while watching them on TV. It will be a memory I'll always cherish. The Red Sox had great offensive players from top to bottom - Johnny

On the surface, this is a book for Red Sox fans. I am not a Red Sox fan. I grew up a Phillies fan, and am the son of a Cubs fan, so I don't need to be preached to about baseball futility. However, the little details of what it means to be a baseball fan are what makes this book so readable. So underneath all the Red Sox rooting, there is a very nice book about being a fan, of a team and the game. If you don't have a working knowledge of baseball, let this book slide. The authors don't try to

I often leverage my teacher trainings into vacations...(last year, Iceland). This year, I am taking a summer institute in Boston and turning it into Liberty Trail, Peabody Museum, and of course a Red Sox-Yankee game at Fenway. Who better to help me prepare for this momentous game than Stephen King, a man whose words have inspired me and made me afraid of my own closet since I was 10?Several of the players he mentions, Carlos Beltran and Orlando Caraera are now, very recently a part of my home

The Boston Red Sox won the world series a month ago and I have been having baseball withdrawal symptoms ever since. These symptoms will not go away completely until March 29, when next season starts. At the baseball book club here on goodreads we have the perfect tonic for the lack of baseball being played on the diamond: reading at least one baseball book a month until the season starts. In honor of the most recent Red Sox victory, our selection this month is Faithful, in which authors Stewart
