I Rode a Horse of Milk White Jade
Oh, how I enjoyed this book! THIS is the kind of horse story I devoured as a kid. As an adult, I enjoyed it even more. I will be looking to add this book to my personal collection. If I ever own a white (gray) mare, I will name her Bayan. My only critique has to do with color genetics - gray horses aren't born white unless they are double dilute (Cremello, Perlino or Smoky Cream).
A touching story about horses, history, and making your own way.Plus, now my little one knows who Kublai Khan is. Extra history bonus points!
This book was so excellent. It's out of print and worth a lot now weirdly enough!
I think it was an ok book, I didn't like how Bayan died but the child horse came in Bayans place. So it made up for it.
So good that I cried at the end!
I love teen fiction because it's great writing in a quick-read format. I really connected to the character, not because I am at all similar, but because it was so well able I was able to be her as I read it. I liked her spunk and her determination, even when she was almost paralyzed with fear she stood up for herself.

I was disappointed in this book. My daughter and I have read lots of books for her schoolwork and this is the first disappointing one. To be fair, the storyline is good. But oh it took sooo long to get from one plot point to the next, especially in the first half. About midway I was hopeful wed left that part behind but there were so many places where it really drug on. Couldve been 50-100 pages shorter and a really good story. Im not afraid of long books by any means but this was exhausting forOh, how I enjoyed this book! THIS is the kind of horse story I devoured as a kid. As an adult, I enjoyed it even more.
